History
American Packaging Corporation is a privately held company with over one hundred years of experience in the manufacture of flexible packaging specifications. The Kardon family founded company in Philadelphia in 1902. They called it American Bag & Paper Company. For the first half century the company was a specialized bag producer. In 1966, American Bag merged with Northern Packaging, an extrusion laminating and coating company located in Rochester, NY. In 1972, the company diversified into rotogravure printing by acquiring Ameripak located in Columbus, WI. Stanley Schottland, CEO of American Bag, purchased the company in 1986 and renamed the three divisions American Packaging Corporation. With the company flourishing, the Schottland family moved the pre-formed products segment to Story City, IA and diversified their product offering by adding a number of PDI pouch fabricating machines. In 1997, the Story City facility was expanded and flexographic printing and laminating was added to enhance the company’s converting capabilities to meet the increasing demand for flexographically printed packaging specifications.
American Packaging is the one of the largest flexible packaging converters in the United States. The company bases it’s Corporate Philosophy on providing high levels of Quality, Service and Technical Innovation. To achieve this goal, the owners re-invested over $140 Million by expanding facilities, purchasing state of the art converting equipment, upgrading existing machinery, creating an analytical laboratory with modern instrumentation to conduct analytical, physical property and shelf stability testing, and rewarding the employees for the company’s success.
American Packaging’s expertise is superior rotogravure & flexographic graphics reproduction combined with adhesive laminating and tandem extrusion laminating. In addition to extrusion and adhesive laminating multi-ply customized specifications, American Packaging applies cold seal, heat seal and hot melt coatings. It can die cut and emboss when required. American Packaging holds seven product patents for pre-formed pouch and bag technology.
American Packaging provides nationwide field technical support. This group is available for on-site troubleshooting, pre-audits, trial supervision, and regularly scheduled technical service support visits.
