American Packaging Corporation's Rotogravure Printing and Laminating facility has become an industry leader by specializing in combining in-line processes to provide packaging materials that are cost effective and create brand recognition.
A $17.5MM equipment and facility expansion was completed in 2011. The expansion included 100,000 square foot additional operating/storage space, a third computer controlled cylinder storage retrieval system, a new computer controlled slitter and robotic material handling system (view Seegrid Robots), along with a custom built Rotogravure Press Laminator with 100% defect detection.
Our Columbus, WI facility features multiple eight and ten color rotogravure presses capable of in-line printing with tandem lamination of film, paper and foil substrates. The capability to combine several substrates in-line has enabled American Packaging to develop cost effective laminations with customized physical, optical and sealing properties that meet specific product and package format requirements. Additional capabilities include backside printing, embossing, registered reverse printing, registered hot melt application, registered cold seal, and patterned-applied heat seal coatings. This facility has the ability of printing fine line screens, random sequential numbering, in addition to use of thermo chromatic inks and scratch off inks for promotional games and sweepstakes. We can also print on holographic films and paper then apply high gloss lacquer to further enhance consumer attraction.
Additional technological advancements at this facility include one of the world's largest automated cylinder handling systems, which facilitates the fastest changeovers possible and has the capacity of storing nearly 19,000 cylinders. Along with two computerized ink dispensing systems, security printing and computer controlled slitters and fully robotic material handling system. This facility recently added new laser scoring equipment capable of both cross direction and machine direction scoring of shapes, contours or straight lines on a variety of substrates.
